About the Book

Book:  Facing the Dawn

Author: Cynthia Ruchti

Genre: Contemporary Women’s Fiction

Release date: March 2, 2021

Book Blurb:

Mara Jacobs has been struggling. While her humanitarian husband is digging wells in Africa and caring for widows and orphans, Mara has been battling the home front—working a demanding yet unrewarding job, trying to manage three detention-prone kids, and suffering from exhaustion and depression. Even her own marriage is deteriorating after a three-year separation.

Then Liam’s absence turns into something more, changing everything and plunging her into a sunless grief. As Mara leans on those around her to find her way to healing and renewed faith, she discovers that even when hope is tenuous and the future is unknown, we can be sure we are not forgotten . . . or unloved.

Facing the Dawn is an emotionally evocative novel that will resonate with readers’ lives and their life challenges. Hemmed in hope, this tender story will be one readers will not soon forget.

Kathy’s Review:

I encountered a problem while reading Facing the Dawn—my dwindling box of tissues. Cynthia Ruchti found the key to tapping deeply into her character’s emotions. From the first page to the last, Mara emerges, first as someone with a false sense of self-dependency, through a journey of hopelessness, and finally to a lady seeing a future despite her loss. That is not a spoiler alert. There are many things in her story that you won’t want to miss. The journey is emoted in a heart-wrenching depiction of grief and hope as she finally learns the value of admitting her needs.

Mara uses sarcasm in her internal dialogue, often adding a touch of humor to the painful circumstances. I found that her thoughts communicated what many people might if they were honest with themselves. From the early pages when life was chaotic through the depths of grief, the author managed to maintain Mara’s character, allowing the changes to emerge slowly and naturally.

I completed this book a few weeks ago, and still think of Mara. That’s the mark of an accomplished author. Facing the Dawn has my highest recommendation.

  1. I want to read this book, but I am preparing myself with TWO boxes of tissues. The humorous touches of sarcasm will be welcomed.
