Kathy’s Review:

First, I must admit I’m a tad biased. I live in driving distance to Biltmore and enjoy seeing its grandeur. One of the many perks in Hope Between the Pages was visiting Biltmore in its prime. Pepper Basham takes us to the grand Vanderbilt estate in the WWI era, showing it through the eyes of Sadie, a resident servant. A clear picture delineated the upstairs and downstairs classifications. A relationship between staff and an esteemed Biltmore guest was impossible. Such things only happened in fairy tales. But both Sadie and Oliver loved fairy tales. Their love takes them on an impossible journey of incredible joy and heartbreak.

Fast forward to the present day. Clara Blackwell, owner of an Ashville bookstore, finds her store in jeopardy when she cannot locate the deed left by her great grandmother, Sadie Blackwell. The search for the deed leads her to visit the past, while altering the course of her own future.

I loved how Sadie turned her heartache into a life that had purpose, and I loved how Clara, her great granddaughter, found love while tracing Sadie’s steps. This is a wonderfully memorable time-slip novel. Don’t miss this one!
